1. He’s not pro-life
Statement: Joe Straus, as State Representative has pro-choice votes he refuses to explain, and is still on record as supporting Roe v. Wade. Getting a few special interest groups to pander to your power with a nod of approval doesn’t mean you’re pro-life. Re-canting his support of Roe v. Wade would.
Support: This is a true statement. You don’t only have to point to his NARAL rating(http://rickvskay.blogspot.com/2010/11/about-joe-straus-and-that-100-naral.html). Also his comments to Evan Smith (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DK6riCRCXD8) the entire interview can be found (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTehIlCMMCE).
2. He’s fiscally irresponsible and is ok with raising taxes.
Statement: Joe Straus is, by far, the most liberal of our 3 leaders in Texas. He has watered down fiscal principles. Straus with Barack Obama that we can’t “cut our way to prosperity”. Joe Straus has publicly ridiculed the Governor to standing up for the Texas Budget Compact which calls for constitutional spending limits which would reign in government.
Support: This statement is also true due to the fact that he has been quoted publicly agreeing with Barak Obama’s assessment that we can’t cut our way to prosperity. (http://www.elpasotimes.com/news/ci_19211497) (http://www.empowertexans.com/issues/straus-channels-obama-no-more-cuts-hike-revenues/)and refuses to join Rick Perry and David Dewhurst in signing the taxpayer protection pledge (http://taxpayerpledge.com/) or the Budget Compact (http://www.dallasnews.com/news/politics/headlines/20120417-straus-dewhurst-wont-sign-on-to-perrys-texas-budget-compact-to-limit-spending.ece).
3. He’s not against Obamacare in Texas
Statement: Rick Perry and David Dewhurst have come out and stood firm on not allowing Obama to force more bureaucracy down on Texans. They have made it clear that Texas will not grow our medicaid program for the promise of some federal dollars. Where does Joe Straus stand on this? Nowhere as usual. When pressed he said they had to bring all the stakeholders together and decide. What is there to decide? Obamacare of harmful to our strong state and economy. Plain and simple.
Support: He’s on record as being open to growing government by refusing to stand against medicaid expansion (http://www.kaiserhealthnews.org/stories/2012/july/18/texas-medicaid-expansion-business.aspx).
4. Straus and his staff distain conservatives
Statement: The emails leaked by RedState.com have Straus’s staff clearly mocking conservatives across Texas. Republican leaders opinion’s are brushed aside and conservative members of the house are ridiculed. It’s clear they see conservatives as their enemy, and so they are ours.
